NASHIK: Kushal Chopra from Nashik won a bronze medal in the under-15 boys’ category at the UTT National Qualifying Table Tennis Championship held at Pondicherry. In the semi-finals, he easily defeated Ashay Yadav of Maharashtra 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 to advance to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, he lost to India’s number one Balamuragan Muthu of Tamil Nadu. In the semi-final match against him, Kushal gave a good fight but lost 9-21, 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, and 8-11 4-2. After losing the first three games, Kushal took the next two games and brought back himself into the game, but in the sixth game, Kushal, who was fighting till the end, was defeated by Balamurgan Muthu 11-8 and entered the final.
Nashik’s Kushal is now ranked third in this group nationally. He is practicing under the guidance of table tennis coach Jay Modak.
District Table Tennis Association President Narendra Chhajed, Secretary Shekhar Bhandari, Rajesh Bharveerkar, Milind Kachole, Sanjay Modak, Abhishek Chhajed, Jay Modak, Sanjay Kadu, and Yogesh Desai have congratulated him on his success.
