Nashik: There is a rise in the number of dengue patients in the city. The number of patients has crossed the figure of 1,000. Patients are spending Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 2 lakh to get a cure of dengue. It is the responsibility of the health department – malaria and the solid waste management department to curb dengue and other epidemics.
All departments should shed away their negligent attitude, warned Mayor Satish Kulkarni on Wednesday.
After it has come to light that 529 dengue patients have been found in the last two months and two succumbed to it, citizens have panicked.
On the backdrop of this, Mayor Kulkarni conducted a meeting of officials of the health department – malaria and solid waste management department. He instructed officials to conduct immediate measures against dengue as well as other epidemics and bring them under control in the next 7-8 days and warned to take action against concerned officials if they fail to do so.
Following the meeting, the Mayor informed the mediapersons that there are over 1000 dengue patients in the city. Malaria department has been instructed to take measures against the dengue. Officials have been instructed to inspect mosquito breeding centres in private and municipal buildings, private and government schools, government offices and buildings.
If mosquitoes are found in them, concerned will be held responsible for this. The acting biologist of NMC is not seen visiting places like earlier officials. This post will be filled up soon. The concerned officials have also been instructed to check is insecticide is sprayed in enough quantity and is there any effect on mosquitoes or not.
They have also been asked to take information about status in industries and defence area. As waste from cattle sheds is being discharged into a nullah or drainage line in many parts of the city, there is a problem of health. Instructions have been given to conduct such checks, the Mayor added.
