Nashik: Christmas was celebrated with traditional fervor in Nashik city on Wednesday as Christians thronged churches for special prayers and decked up cathedrals. The city turned to a celebratory note with the yuletide spirit with people. ‘Jingle bells jingle bells’ rent the air.
As bells tolled, people thronged churches – Holy Cross, St. Andrea church in Sharanpur Road area, St. Thomas church in Shalimar St. Annes church and St. Philip in Nashik Road area – decorated with twinkling lights for the midnight service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Special prayer and carols were presented on the eve. Christmas trees were set up at churches and households. Nativity scenes have been set up in the churches. Various religious programmes were organised throughout the day on Wednesday. Sweets and cakes were distributed.
Chief father Vinay conducted missa at Holy Cross church between 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm on Tuesday. Father Bency D’Mello and father Llyod were present. Missa was conducted on next day i.e. Wednesday at 8 am. Followed by this get-together of people from all religion was organised at 5 pm.
Children of Satya Sai Seva Sanghatan organised a candle rally from Holy Cross church to the general post office at 5 am. Thereafter, a prayer was organised for integrity and peace in the world. A religious programme was organised in St. Andrea church at 8 am.
Carols were sung at 7 pm. The cake was also distributed. Prayer was held at 8 am in St. Annes church at Jail Road in the presence of father Pit D’Souza and father Sachin Mantode.
