No nylon manja, citizens vow

YEOLA: Following an order issued by Commissioner of Police Deepak Pandey against the manufacture, sale, and use of nylon manjha in the district, kite flyers in the famous Yeola town and its surrounding villages have shown positive gesture to the directive and kite flyers as a symbolic indication burnt the banned nylon manja to create awareness among the kite flyers ahead of fast approaching Makar Sankranti festival.

The kite festival in Yeola is familiar to all. The campaign against synthetic and nylon manja has gained momentum due to the increasing demand for banning the illegal sale and use of nylon thread.

The festival of Makar Sankranti is just a few days away. During this perriod, thousands of citizens from surrounding villages in Yeola celebrate kite flying which is famous all over Maharashtra for kite festival.

The Yeola Youth Congress also celebrated kite festival by burning the nylon manja. Environmentalists, on the other hand, have expressed displeasure over the widespread availability of nylon manja in the market. Many citizens in Yeola have been demandiong a ban on this dangerous thread.

In its recent order, CP Pandey said, “If any person is caught using the nylon manja, the police will issue charges against the violator, and he/she will be sentenced to one-year imprisonment.”
