Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Ltd. is thinking to set up citizen experience centre under safer city Nashik. A team of Smart City company, UST Global and EY Consultant jointly conducted inspection at Mahatma Phule gallery to set up the citizen experience centre on the first floor. Nashikites can experience historic, spiritual, mechanical and Nashik in future in this proposed Centre.

There will be information about smart city projects, models of that projects, various videos, innovation hub and start up. Information about the projects which have been completed under the smart city mission and those projects which will begin. Students and citizens can experience Nashik’s historic, spiritual, industrial and smart city in future under one roof. All of these can be experience in 2D and 3D form.

As Mahatma Phule art gallery is besides Kalidas auditorium, citizens can also experience virtual reality. As it is located in the central area of the city and entry is free, citizens in large numbers will visit the centre and will take experience. This project will be an addition to the popularity of Mahatma Phule art gallery.

The information about the projects will be displayed on the walls in the form of pictures and graphics. 2D and 3D models of the projects under the smart city mission will be exhibited in the Centre. In addition, information about smart city projects will also be given through murals. The journey of Nashik from a land of mantras to a land of machines will be presented through a short film. In addition, there will be a dark room means virtual reality experience room. Citizens can take the experience of videos and informative films which will be prepared in the angle of 360.

Citizens can also see and experience smart devices like flood sensor, environment sensor, CCTV camera, wi-fi devices, public redressal system, emergency call box and other smart devices here. After usage of two-third space of the hall for Citizen Centre, it is possible to make planning for start-up showcase in rest area. Students will get available a bigger opportunity here.

In addition to the existing 92 Automatic Rain Gauge Systems (ARGSs) — a weather instrument for measuring rainfall and monitoring rate of rainfall — in the district, the administration has proposed additional rain gauge systems in the district at strategic locations in order to assist, caution and alert the farmers in advance against potential agricultural losses arising out of natural fury.

In the district, currently there are altogether 92 rain gauge systems properly functioning to measure accurate rainfall and weather conditions. However, these systems are insufficient to address concerns of the farming community. Taking cue from this, district collector Suraj Mandhare has invited proposals from tehsildars who will have to decide on suitable locations in each of the revenue circles for installation of these additional systems.

Accordingly, the disaster management cell at the collectorate has sent letters to all the tehsildars inviting proposals for the installation of new rainfall gauge systems, informed officer Prashant Waghmare.

The new systems will help the administration immensely to prepare a reliable and authentic weather report to help the farmers to prevent future agricultural losses. These are specially designed units that will provide additional data of exact temperature and weather forecast and give updates regarding heavy rainfall. According to IMD officials, ARGS will help to keep tabs on the current updates of monsoon and check the amount of rainfall being received by any part of the city.

With this, the government will also have more accurate data to compensate the farmers. The weather conditions of prolonged, untimely and heavy rainfall which have caused to cross 100% rainfall mark and have wreaked havoc in the months of October and November too, have forced the district administration to add more rain gauge systems.
On this backdrop, the government had prepared certain guidelines — of which ‘record of rainfall’ is one of the key factors, to assist the distressed farmers. At present, there is one automatic system functioning in each of the revenue circles to predict rainfall.

We can often see people spitting in public places in the city. It is not only spreading uncleanliness in the city but also creating health hazards through various diseases and infections.

The spitting found specifically at bus stands, public toilets, and parking places. Spitting also found in a few office walls and washrooms. Because of this, we see uncleanliness everywhere in the area. It feels filthy to go to that place.

The government should implement a strict law against those, who spit in public places. This will help qutting the bad habit of spitting at public places. Deshdoot Times talks to some Nashikites to know their views about this disgusting and anti-social habit.

“Citizens are often seen spitting out on the city streets or at offices. This not only causes unclealiness but also causes various infections. It can spread diseases like TB, swine flu. Penalties should be levied for the litterbugs in the city and the consequences of this should be explained to them.”

“While going through the road, several citizens are seen spitting in the public places. It spreads different diseases. Due to such a bad habit and irresponsible act, there remains uncleanliness in the city area. Strict action should be taken against such citizens to stop this kind of thing. Nashikites are queuing up early morning at Shankaracharya Nyas on Ganagapur Road. The queue is not for the yoga classes or any other physical activity, however, it still is related to health. The farmers from rural parts of Nashik bring freshly harvested veggies here. The vegetables are not only fresh but are also organic and grown naturally.

The best part in this is the profits of farmers have increased by 20 per cent and Nashikites get organic food to eat.
From exotics like red cabbage and broccoli to all kinds of leafy vegetables, the stock of three farmers was sold out within 20 minutes. No leftovers and no farmer slashing the rates of his veggies just to sell off his stock. Every second and third Sunday this markets get open at around 9 am and stays still 1 pm. Every time the farmers are getting increased response.

The initiative has been started with the efforts by Rotary Club of Nashik and Professor Hemraj Rajput from Yashwantrao Chavan Open University, Nashik. Around 150-200 farmers are affiliated with the ‘Rotary Organic Bazaar’.

A similar initiative is taking place in Mumbai with efforts of farmers from Nashik Bhagwat Balak from Wadgaon Sinnar, is leading the farm-to-fork concept initiated by a farmer’s group in Nashik, called ‘Vasundhara Sendriya Shetmal Sampadak Shetkari Ghat’, a collaboration of close to 200 farmers that sets up organic farmers markets every 2-3 days a week in Mumbai.

“In 2016, we started this initiative. I always wanted to sell my produce in city like Mumbai and now we have a market place in Juhu. We get 20 per cent higher than usual price we get in our local market. There are around 200 farmers connected to us and 38 farmer groups in the tehsils of Nashik district,”

“The initiative started with a motive to provide platform to organic farmers. The major issue was with the setting up of a market and proper place for it. We requested Shankaracharya Nyas about our initiative; they immediately gave it green signal. Now, produce of about 150-200 farmers are regularly sold with the help of Rotary Club of Nashik.”

“The market starts on second and forth Sunday of every month at around 9 am. Within no time the produce gets sold. Earlier it was a struggle but now the stock gets short and people have to leave empty-handed. We are also thinking of various initiatives under this organic bazaar.”
