NASHIK: Considering the potential danger of the new Omicron variant, the machinery in the district have been activated and the passengers arriving at the airport from the affected countries will be tested more carefully, said District Collector Suraj Mandhare adding that municipal corporation (NMC) has been informed about the compulsory testing at Nashihk (Ojhar) Airport.
“We will not be ignorant of the possible third wave. Proper use of mask, vaccination are the only precautionary measures as the Omicron variant is more dangerous. Citizens should be very careful. All departments have been instructed to remain vigilant and contact tracing of persons from abroad will be done,” stated Mandhare.
Previously, infection ability of the Delta Plus variant was limited. But the newly discovered Omicron variant is many times more dangerous and infectious. The earlier variants used to take ten to fifteen minutes to spread. But scientists believe that four to five minutes is enough for an Omicron to spread infection. As the new variant of Corona found in South Africa is more dangerous and spreading rapidly, it has been decided to take precautionary measures in Nashik district.
“Omicron is a new virus that spreads faster. Therefore, citizens will have to be more vigilant this year than the first two waves,” said the District Collector and added that “as this variant could be the cause of the third wave, the system would be instructed to implement the three-pronged approach of use of mask, social distancing and vaccination.”
“The expected number of beds in the district are ready. Oxygen is also available. The health system will be notified of the planning. The number of health workers will also be reviewed and they will be instructed to be alert. There will be more emphasis on planning to enable the system so that the system does not fall short,” Mandhare stated.
