PUNADKHORE (KALWAN) :
Summer is here. So is the panic over drinking water supply in the villages. Apart from the local civic bodies, NGOs, self-help groups, religious outfits, public representatives and the volunteers remain mobilized when the perennial issue of drinking water arises.
In the present situation where people are jointly fighting against the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic by following social distancing norms and taking preventive measures like use of protective masks, the villages on the other hand, fortunately though are out of reach of the corona disease to a great extent, but they are now more closer to their perennial problem of drinking water.
In such a situation, Rawalji, a parched 4000-strong population village in Kalwan taluka is quenching its thirst from the private well owned by village sub-head Balasaheb Jadhav.
The up sarpanch is providing free water for drinking purposes from his well to the villagers. “This will help solve our drinking water problem at least for this summer. We are thankful to the village subhead,” said a villager.
“The well has ample water to quench the thirst of the village. The gram panchayat would have spent around Rs 30,000 in a month if it would have provided drinking water to the village. The local civic body has saved this projected expenditure. It can utilise the saved money for the village development,” expressed village subhead Balasaheb Jadhav.
The gram panchayat has saved around Rs 30,000 in a month over-budgeted provision for drinking water. The saved fund can now be utilized for village development.
