NASHIK: There are Jaat Panchayats or Khap Panchayats all over the country. Therefore, a country-wide law should be enacted, demanded Maharashtra MP Faujia Khan in the Rajya Sabha.
Maharashtra’s Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti or Anti Superstitious Committee has welcomed the demand and has said that it will strengthen the movement against superstition.
The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti has been fighting against the arbitrariness of such Khap panchayats for the last nine years. Due to social pressure from the media and committee, the anti-caste panchayat law was passed in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra became the first state in the country to enact such a law. Krishna Chandgude of Nashik, a functionary of the Khap-Panchayat Muthamati Abhiyan, said, “We have gained strength now as the MP from Maharashtra Faujia Khan demanded the law against superstition in the Rajya Sabha.”
On the question of caste panchayats in Rajya Sabha in zero hour, Khan said that caste panchayats are taking the law into their own hands. They are abandoning people, excluding people on various grounds, insulting them. The practice of uncontrollably by them should be noted. Because it is not in accordance with the law, a law should be brought against it.
In Maharashtra, such a law has come into force since 2017. Which is against caste panchayat. These caste panchayats should be completely abolished. Because they are going against the Indian Constitution and for no reason, they are socially ostracising the people. “The Central Government should pass a law that destroys this social evil. We must destroy the caste panchayat system just as we have destroyed the evil traditions”, Chandgude Said.
He added that if such a country-wide law is enacted, the caste panchayat muthamati campaign will get more strength. The Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti receives complaints from caste panchayats from other states. But since there is no such law, it is difficult to help such people.
If the central government enacts such a nationwide law, no caste panchayats could ever function.
