Muslim brethren to celebrate Eid indoors

NASHIK (MALEGAON) :

The district administration on Sunday requested people to celebrate Eid by staying indoors and deployed additional forces in select pockets of the districts to deter overcrowding. The move came after Malegaon town recorded a total of 713 cases of Covid-19 till Saturday.

The Eid, which comes at the end of the 30-day Ramzan month, is expected to be the first-of-its-kind with adherence to norms of social distancing. The community leaders have also urged people to stay at home and not venture out for Eid shopping.

“We appeal people to celebrate Eid by staying indoors in view of a spike in Covid-19 cases in the district, particularly in the worst-hit power loom town of Malegaon. People should strictly follow the rules enforced in the containment and red zones,” a release issued by the police superintendent office, Nashik rural, stated on Sunday.

We have conveyed the government’s orders to all religious outfits and imams of mosques and asked them to avoid gatherings. All police stations have been directed to keep a close vigil during Eid. Prominent personalities of the Muslim community in Malegaon have assured cooperation, it said.

Earlier, ahead of Eid celebrations, a route march covering around 7 km distance was taken out on behalf of rural police on all the major routes of east and west parts of Malegaon city under the guidance of police superintendent (Nashik rural district) Dr Arti Singh.

Appealing people to celebrate Eid indoors and follow the guidelines of the government, the route march was joined by
additional police superintendent (Malegaon) Sandeep Ghuge, subdivisional police officer Ratnakar Naval, a subdivisional police officer (Malegaon Camp) Mangesh Chavan, RCP and QRT platoons, SRPF companies, CRPF rapid action force, rural police and home guards.

The march started from Eidgah ground proceeded via Phule statue, Khoka Naka, Mirza Galib road, Musharvat chowk, Sulemani chowk, Fateh maiden, Teen Kandil, Mamledar lane, Paach Kandil, Chandanpuri Gate, Ajmal Khan Chowk, Mata math, MMC office, Sardar Chowk and Dr Ambedkar statue to culminate at the police control cell, Malegaon.

In order to maintain law and order, the rural police have deployed about 1800 police personnel comprising 2 police superintendents, 2 additional police superintendents, 5 deputy superintendents of police, 22 police inspectors, 83 subordinate officials, and 1058 police apart from 3 platoons of RCP, 3 enforcement squads, 34 home guards and 6 companies of State Reserve Police Force.
