Wildlife census started in Nashik division

NASHIK: From January 16, Wildlife census has been started in Nashik district. Transit lines have been drawn in the major wildlife habitats of the district. According to the Forest Department, deer, leopards, wild buffaloes, foxes and other wild animals will be counted by studying their hooves and droppings. The tiger project in the state and the animals in the protected forest will be counted.

This will be a ‘transit’ calculation. Therefore, the exact number of leopards and other animals in the entire district will be known. Transit lines have been laid in Yeola, Sinnar, Nandurmadhyameshwar and hilly areas of Nashik district. The number of carnivores and herbivores in the district will be counted in the tiger conservation projects, sanctuaries and communication projects in the state.

For this, the forest officials have given training to the employees. The State Wildlife Department has announced the schedule of wildlife census by taking measures for the safety of forest workers. Forests, agriculture as well as water bodies will also be monitored. This will determine the exact number of animals in the district.

By collecting the information obtained, animal habitat found in each taluka will be identified. The number of animals will be announced accordingly. In Nashik, Nandgaon and Yeola talukas have large number of antelopes. Apart from this, wildlife is also found in large numbers at Nandur Madhameshwar.

In Sinnar, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Harsul, Peth, Surgana tehsils the number of leopards, wild hogs, Rangai, hyena, wolfs, blackbuck will also be counted.
