Farmers protest against load-shedding

NASHIK: The load-shedding regulation enacted by MSEDCL for agriculture is unjust. The power supply comes on at 8 pm at night and goes out at 4 am in the early morning, echoed the agitating farmers. This forces farmers to wake up at night for irrigation to the standing crop, even in the cold. On this backdrop, outraged farmers in Girnare area staged an agitation on Wednesday at Girnare’s MSEDCL substation demanding regular power supply at day time.

“Injustice against us must stop, we must get daytime power supply for agriculture,” the agitators said. A statement of demands was given to Vijay Bhoye, Deputy Engineer, MSEDCL. At a meeting held outside the sub-center, angry farmers vented their emotions. According to MSEDCL’s load regulation schedule, the power comes on at 8 pm and goes off at 4 am. This schedule is not suitable for farming activity.

Due to such night loadshedding, farmers have to work hard to irrigate their crops. Even during extreme cold, farmers stay up all night to keep their crops alive. MSEDCL officials should understand the plight of farmers. Dissatisfaction was expressed among the farmers in such harsh words.
