District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal yesterday distributed financial aid to as many as 116 slum residents whose shanties were gutted in a major fire that had broken out at a slum in Bhadrakali area on Saturday last (April 25).
Giving some relief to the slum dwellers, the minister on a primary basis and adhering to the social distancing norms, handed over cheques each of Rs 5000 to three affected dwellers, yesterday.
All these affected citizens have been provided accommodation on ad hoc basis at BD Bhalekar High school in Shalimar with proper facilities and amenities.
Over 100 shanties were gutted in the blaze at Bhimwadi area of Bhadrakali. The fire had spread quickly after some LPG cylinders were exploded. The entire area was enveloped in thick black smoke for some time. Around 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Local residents had helped the police and the fire brigade personnel in the rescue operation which had lasted nearly three hours.
