NASHIK: The fight to save the heritage banyan tree near the City Centre Mall has come to end and Nashikites have won. The tree has been saved. The final decision will be taken by changing the layout of the proposed flyover from swimming pool to Trimurti Chowk, stated Aditya Thackeray, Minister of State for Environment, on Friday on his visit to Nashik.
State Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray was speaking on the occasion of inspecting a 200- year-old banyan tree around Untwadi Mhasoba Maharaj Devasthan in Tidke Nagar. He further said that the banyan tree around the Untwadi Mhasoba Maharaj temple at Tidke Nagar is more than two hundred years old.
Due to the unique significance of such a heritage tree, a flyover will be constructed with changing the layout to save this great tree. Also, special efforts will be made to preserve all the trees that are more than hundred years old. He also said that emphasis will be laid on sustainable development works keeping in view the environment said Minister Thackeray while interacting with citizens and media at the heritage tree.
Speaking further, Environment Minister said that planning will be done for the flyover in such a way that the other trees will also be saved and instructions have been given in this regard to corporation. While inspecting the Nandini river, Environment Minister Thackeray said that the Nandini river would be cleaned on the lines of Aurangabad through public participation.
Urban Development and Public Works Minister Eknath Shinde, Agriculture Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Commissioner of Police Deepak Pandey, President of Kalika Mandir Annasaheb Patil, Trustee of Mhasoba Mandir Samiti Pravin Jagtap were present at the occasion.
